The design brief for this iconic bookstore located at Pacific Place mall in Admiralty, was to create the new bookstore with the same atmosphere as its existing store as well as try to consolidate the displays to its new limited location, that is a fifth of the size. The main challenges of this location was the limited ceiling height and the irregular floor plan. By coordinating tenaciously with the contractors to ensure we run all the systems efficiently in the narrow ceiling space, we have managed to raises the ceiling height to its maximum level. Embracing the irregular floor plan, we designed a staggered bookshelf that provides a more dynamic interior space for better customer experience. The lighting was a very important factor due to the restricted ceiling, hence we brought on a lighting designer which helped to design and specify good quality lighting with high CRI (colour rendering index).
